About Survivors Day
National Cancer Survivors Day was started more than 20 years ago with the purpose of recognizing the difficult journey that patients and their families go through as well as celebrating life in the continuing fight against cancer. It has become a worldwide celebration of life, generally held on the first Sunday in June.
Santa Clara Medical Center held its first Seeds of Hope Cancer Survivors Day celebration on June 13, 2010. The theme was the sunflower, with its hundreds of "seeds of hope" for both the patients and their caregivers. The event provided a day of celebration and fun, but also helped empower our patients to take their future into their own hands. Workshops ranged from nutrition to managing stress to next steps after breast cancer treatment.
