Cancer Survivors Day is June 12
By Dr. Anita Lee
June 2011
Kaiser Permanent Santa Clara Oncology Services invites you to celebrate Cancer Survivors Day with us at our second annual Seeds of Hope Cancer Survivors Day Conference and Celebration on June 12, 2011, from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m.
This event celebrates survivorship and provides education to promote ongoing health and reduce the risk of cancer recurrence. We encourage you to come and bring family and friends to learn and celebrate with us.
This year our conference will focus on nutrition. We’ll offer two workshops on this topic: “Fighting Cancer with Food” and “Obesity, Diabetes, and Cancer Risk”. We’ve also invited chefs from the French Culinary Institute and Morrison Catering to demonstrate how to prepare healthy meals, even when you’re fatigued from cancer treatment or a busy lifestyle. A demonstration on how to plant a delicious and nutritious vegetable garden will be hosted by our own medical staff.
Other workshops offered include:
- An opportunity for cancer survivors to share their experiences
- A special session for young cancer survivors and their parents
- How to minimize cancer recurrence by practicing a healthy lifestyle
- The effect of cancer treatments on sexual intimacy (one session for men and one for women)
- Helping survivors and their families manage the emotional challenges of diagnosis and treatment
- Breast cancer rehabilitation through physical therapy
As part of the celebration, a jazz band will play for our dancing and listening pleasure. Many other fun activities will be available, such as yoga, line dancing, a cancer workout session, arts and crafts, a magic show for kids, and more. More than 35 educational booths will be present, representing the multitude of cancer support groups and support services that are available within the extensive Kaiser Permanente network and our community.
We hope you will be able to join us. Please follow this link for online registration. If you do not have an internet connection, you may call Sherry Rose, at (408) 851-4142, to register for this event.
