General Surgery
Many early stage cancers can be cured by surgery alone, or surgery followed by other treatment such as chemotherapy, radiation, hormonal therapy. Some cancers are treated with chemotherapy and radiation first, followed by surgery, such as rectal cancer, esophageal cancer, and others. At surgery department, we have breast care clinic, surgical oncology, thoracic surgery and other services.
The Surgery Department is a multi-specialty clinic, consisting of providers specialized in General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Thoracic Surgery and Pediatric Surgery. The department also incorporates the outpatient surgery room (OPS) and the Minor Procedure room, which are used for minor surgical procedures under the local anesthesia and/or procedural sedation. Our surgeons diagnose and treat various type of cancer with the extensive implementation of minimally invasive endoscopic and laparoscopic techniques.
For instance, colon cancer surgery is performed laparoscopically now in most cases. This way a patient recovers faster with less chance of an infection. However, in patients with large tumor or with obstruction an open surgery might still be required.
