Surgical Oncology Subspecialities
The Surgery Department is a multi-specialty clinic, consisting of providers specialized in General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Thoracic Surgery and Pediatric Surgery. The department also includes outpatient minor procedure rooms, which are used for surgical procedures under the local anesthesia. Our surgeons diagnose and treat a wide variety of cancers, with the extensive implementation of minimally invasive endoscopic and laparoscopic techniques.
DIAGNOSIS
TREATMENT
The Surgery Department offers state-of-the-art care, including the use of small incisions and advanced cameras, also called minimally invasive surgery or laparoscopy, for diagnosis and treatment. For instance, colon cancer surgery is performed laparoscopically now in the majority of cases, allowing people to recover faster and with less pain. Many lung and esophageal cancers are removed using thoracoscopic assistance.
We are a regional center for the treatment of thoracic tumors, like lung, mediastinial, and esophageal cancers. We are the Northern California regional center for peritoneal surface malignancies, such as appendiceal cancer and peritoneal mesothelioma, and the first Kaiser in the United States to offer hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) to our patients.
