Bladder cancer follow-up
Adapted from NCCN (National Comprehensive Cancer Network) V.2.2010
Follow up for locally advance bladder cancer:
- Every 6-12 months
- Chest x-ray
- Blood tests including:
- liver function tests
- creatinine,
- electrolytes
- Year 1-2, and as clinically indicated:
- every 3-6 months Imaging of upper tracts, abdomen, and pelvis
- If bladder still present:
- every 3-6 months: urine cytology and or cystoscopy
If bladder removed:
- Year 1-2, and as clinically indicated :
- Every 3-6 months:
- Urine cytology
- Creatinine
- electrolytes for
- Year 1-2, and as clinically indicated:
- every 3-6 months:
- Imaging of the chest, abdomen and pelvis based on risk of recurrence and then as clinically indicated.
- Every 6-12 months urethral wash cytology: especially if in situ disease was found within the bladder or prostatic urethra.
If a continent diversion was created:
monitor for vitamin B12 deficiency annually.
