Bladder cancer follow-up

 

Adapted from NCCN (National Comprehensive Cancer Network) V.2.2010

 

Follow up for locally advance bladder cancer:

  • Every 6-12 months
    • Chest x-ray
    • Blood tests including:
      • liver function tests
      • creatinine,
      • electrolytes
  • Year 1-2, and as clinically indicated:
    • every 3-6 months Imaging of upper tracts, abdomen, and pelvis
    • If bladder still present:
      •  every 3-6 months: urine cytology and or cystoscopy

       

If bladder removed:

  • Year 1-2, and as clinically indicated :
    • Every 3-6 months:
      • Urine cytology
      • Creatinine
      • electrolytes for

       

  • Year 1-2, and as clinically indicated:
    • every 3-6 months:
      • Imaging of the chest, abdomen and pelvis based on risk of recurrence and then as clinically indicated.

       

  • Every 6-12 months urethral wash cytology: especially if in situ disease was found within the bladder or prostatic urethra. 

If a continent diversion was created:
monitor for vitamin B12 deficiency annually.
