Career and cancer
Rethinking, redefining and returning to work
Cancer survivors often feel that their life has transformed as a result of their experiences with cancer. Returning to work may be a welcome reprieve from the usual doctor visits, or it may be a source of stress, or trigger a host of other reactions.
Stress may be fueled by uncertainty about how to communicate with your boss or coworkers, anxiety about how you might be treated and fear that you can’t bounce back to your regular job role.
Oftentimes people feel they have a new lease on life and tend to value their health and families above all else which may contribute to a lack of focus at work. It’s not unusual for cancer survivors to take time off to travel or reduce their work hours.
Listen to yourself and make needed adjustments to remain healthy.
